Machine Engineer (Turboexpander Machine Design Engineer) – Santa Ana, CA
Position Overview
Responsible for the design, development, and optimization of critical rotating equipment for Air Liquide’s Turbo Division. Ensures technical deliverables meet or exceed global, local, and industry safety and engineering standards while translating complex customer specifications into efficient aerodynamic and mechanical solutions.

- Ensure technical deliverables meet safety and engineering standards.
- Translate customer specifications into efficient aerodynamic and mechanical designs.
- Participate in global and local product development efforts.
- Capture and implement design lessons learned from field commissioning data, design reviews, and Root Cause Analyses.
- Conduct and refine detailed turbo-expander machine and component designs.
- Create turbo machine layouts with 3D models, detailed drawings, and bills of materials to support production schedules.
- Develop new turbo machinery products.
- Support manufacturing, quality, and procurement on nonconforming parts and components.
- Analyze field issues, troubleshoot, and provide recommendations/solutions.
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations for field and manufacturing nonconformances.
- Act as the technical liaison for procurement to audit suppliers and ensure vendor capabilities meet design, quality, and production schedules.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3–5+ years of progressive experience in turbo machinery design, rotating equipment, or precision manufacturing.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling using Solid Works.
- Familiar with GD&T standards and stack‑ups.
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑starting and motivating.
- Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (prefer Ansys).
- Knowledge of ASME standards and codes.
- Knowledge of machining practices, mills, lathes, and drilling.
- Knowledge of turbo machinery and rotating element design.
- Knowledge of aerodynamics for radial turbines.
- Knowledge of rotor dynamics and modal analysis.
- Knowledge of cryogenic and advanced materials.
- Valid U.S. employment authorization; no visa sponsorship required.
Annual base salary range: $95,000 – $105,000 (California).
