What We Do

This internship is part of First American’s structured program designed to provide college students with hands‑on experience while developing technical, professional, and interpersonal skills for long‑term career growth. Interns work in a corporate environment within the financial/title industry, supported by meaningful project work, executive‑level exposure, and networking opportunities, all under the guidance of a manager or mentor. In this role, interns gain hands‑on exposure to the structure and day‑to‑day operations of a corporate accounting team, learning how financial data is prepared, analyzed, and maintained in a publicly traded company.

Interns will build foundational skills by supporting reconciliations, participating in financial reporting activities, assisting with compliance work under GAAP and other regulatory standards, and contributing to projects that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls within the department.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform account reconciliations and analyze financial data to support business operations and decision‑making
  • Contribute to the preparation of public financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, SEC filings, and other regulatory reports
  • Support evaluations of profitability, operational efficiency, and product performance at both the company and regional levels
  • Assess how changes in accounting regulations may impact financial statements and internal controls
  • Follow established accounting policies and procedures and participate in internal and external audits, including SOX compliance activities
What You’ll Bring
  • Junior or senior‑level student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, ideally with 0–2 years of relevant work or internship experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills required for the Accounting internship track
  • Demonstrates genuine interest in learning accounting within the mortgage, real estate, financial services, or title insurance industries
  • Brings strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a thorough approach to all assigned work
  • Shows a strong customer‑focused mindset and represents the company with professionalism
  • Possesses the foundation to grow in key competencies including communication, customer focus, ethics and integrity, teamwork, adaptability, productivity, and initiative
  • Displays excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
