The Manual Machinist is responsible for producing, modifying, and repairing mechanical components using manual lathes, milling machines, and related equipment. This role requires a high degree of precision, strong attention to detail, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and hand‑sketched concepts. Basic knowledge of standard machine shop tools and practices is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Operate manual lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment to manufacture or repair parts.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and hand sketches.
- Set up, align, and adjust machines and tooling for production runs.
- Inspect finished components to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Perform minor assemblies as needed.
- Repair shafts and properly fit bearings.
- Apply knowledge of bearing tolerances and proper bearing installation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following safety protocols.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance personnel to improve machining processes.
- Document part measurements, adjustments, and other relevant information accurately.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, methods, and tooling.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
- Ability to work in environments with noise and exposure to machining equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in work.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety procedures in a machining environment.
- Availability to work Sundays when required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training or a machining apprenticeship is preferred.
