Job Summary
The Manager of Extramural Funds Accounting provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the campus extramural funds financial management program within Business & Financial Services (BFS). The role oversees the central accounting and post‑award financial administration functions for contracts and grants funded by federal agencies, state and local governments, private sponsors, foundations, and donor gifts. The unit supports more than 1,600 active funds and serves as the campus authority for financial administration of sponsored research awards.

Employment: Full Time
Salary: $123,000 – $175,100 per year (budgeted); full range $123,000 – $237,800 per year.
30% Strategic Leadership and Program Management
• Establishes strategic priorities, service standards, and operational goals.
• Leads the development and implementation of financial processes and policies.
• Provides strategic guidance on campus‑wide initiatives.
• Represents the campus in system‑wide working groups and professional organizations.25% Sponsored Research Financial Operations
• Oversees financial administration of research awards: award setup, compliance monitoring, billing, reporting, and closeout.
• Ensures transactions and reporting comply with sponsor terms and federal regulations.
• Manages invoicing, collections, subledger close, and reconciliation.
• Supports Principal Investigators and research administrators.20% Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management
• Oversees internal control processes and monitors compliance with federal regulations and sponsor requirements.
• Coordinates internal and external audits and implements corrective actions.
• Updates and maintains policies related to extramural fund accounting.15% Financial Systems, Reporting, and Process Improvement
• Leads the development and optimization of financial systems and reporting tools in Oracle Financials Cloud.
• Oversees system design, testing, implementation, and stabilization.
• Identifies and implements process improvements, automation, and system optimization.10% Leadership, Staff Development, and Training
• Supervises professional accounting staff and conducts performance management.
• Manages workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and training.
• Fosters a collaborative work environment that supports innovation and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7‑9 years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience.
- 7‑9 years of demonstrated experience managing financial operations in complex organizations.
- 4‑6 years of experience in sponsored research administration or post‑award financial management.
- 4‑6 years of experience working within higher education or research institutions.
- 4‑6 years of experience with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle Financials Cloud.
- Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or equivalent.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Occasional travel (approximately 10%).
- Limited vacation availability during fiscal year‑end close periods.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.
