Surveying Technician

A small but very busy Surveying company, WW Surveying, Inc in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA, is looking to hire a Survey Tech with 1-3 years of surveying. This person should have experience with all types of surveys including construction staking, boundary and topographic surveys. A L.S.I.T. certification is a plus. Autocad skills are necessary to perform the work required for this position.

The person should be familiar with survey maps and would be willing to work in our office drafting as well as be in the field. Field days are often 8 hour days pounding stakes in the ground and climbing steep terrain.

Carlson software knowledge is a plus but not necessary to perform the work. Other skills required for this position are typing and word processing. The knowledge of Microsoft programs is a plus. We are looking for a person that has good people skills and can work with the general public on a daily basis.

• Performs surveying assignments within company and industry standards using a computer as an aid to drafting and document deliverables
• Prepares accurate, complete, and value-added work products and perform survey computations
• Ensures timely document delivery by completing assigned tasks on or ahead of schedule
• Perform construction staking calculations
• Responsible for reducing field data
• Understands field codes and stringing (field to office data collection)
• Prepares cut sheets for field crews
• Understand tolerances and accuracy as they relate to project needs
• Performs necessary map and deed research
• Works closely with LSIT Surveyors, and LS Surveyors within company to obtain project information and ensure drawings are accurate and complete
• Maintains consistent layers and line types
• Plots maps and assemble sets for submittal
• Within the first 3 months of probation period to be able to complete a full Topographic Surveyor from start to finish.
• Assist the Supervisor LS, James Wenzel, with smaller office tasks when the needs arise.
• Carrying equipment (50lbs or under), working outdoors exposed to sunlight and weather elements
• Commuting to job sites and working on project sites with active construction and machinery.
• Work will be performed under the supervision of a Party Chief, which may include setting up and leveling of distance measuring equipment (EDM Total Stations, GPS Receivers, Levels, etc.) setting of permanent and temporary markers by driving stakes, pipes into the surface.
