Brief Summary of

Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the Student Affairs Manager and in cooperation with the Undergraduate Advising team, support all aspects of the Computer Science graduate program. Coordinate and manage the graduate admissions program, advise approximately 200 graduate students and 600 undergraduate students on a wide variety of academic and personal issues. Interpret University and Graduate Division policies, working cooperatively within the Student Affairs Area to assist with ongoing workload and act independently when necessary.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/training
  • 1–3 years experience working in a diverse college‑level academic advising setting
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize tasks with multiple deadlines
  • Problem‑identification, reasoning, and the development of original solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening and professional interaction with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UCSB academic processes, policies, procedures, and requirements

  • 50% Graduate Advisor: Advises new and continuing Ph.D. and MS students on admissions, program requirements, financial aid, petitions, examinations, housing, and more.
