Location: Bio Sci Instruction Facility 2219, UCSB Campus
The Lab Coordinator supports introductory biology teaching labs for approximately 3,000 students, operating 12 hrs/day, 5 days/week. Key duties include:
- Preparation of reagents, media, specimens, and other materials; weekly breakdown and setup of current lab exercises.
- Maintenance and culture of fungi, plants, animals, and microbes; humane care, euthanasia, and dissection of vertebrate animals.
- Assistance to graduate-student teachers with materials, guidance, and training for lab sections.
- Ordering and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Weekly set up of lab exercises; isolation and purification of bacterial and viral DNA; cultivation and breeding of genetic organisms.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in biology.
- 1-3 years molecular lab experience.
- Teamwork within a diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years animal husbandry experience.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and/or split shifts.
- Schedules subject to quarterly change and enrollment influence.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.
- UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.
