Job Duties
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Budget and Planning, the Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment (IRPA) manages a comprehensive program of institutional research and assessment, reporting, and analysis that supports campus academic planning, enrollment planning, program assessment, and strategic decision‑making. The Director provides financial, faculty, student, staff, and other data to departments, schools, and programs to enhance decision‑making, problem solving, strategic planning, policy review, student success, and institutional priorities.
Responsibilities include complex data compilation, statistical analysis, report development, and overseeing a survey research program that surveys students, faculty, and staff on matters relevant to institutional assessment. The Director also provides undergraduate admission yield modeling and statistical support to the Office of Admissions, and analytical support to the Academic Program Review process.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience in institutional research or a similar decision‑support profession.
- Ph.D. or advanced degree in any field, preferably with advanced statistical research methods and quantitative data analysis.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.

- 15% Leadership & Management: Manage and lead a team of six senior professionals in data, analysis, and report development. Provide professional development and training for staff.
- 85% Research, Planning & Assessment: Lead and manage a comprehensive institutional research program, develop vision responsive to institutional needs, engage with leaders to determine reporting needs, prepare and present reports, oversee Tableau dashboards, manage survey responses, produce analytical studies, manage enrollment planning, monitor admissions yields, evaluate external environment impacts, serve on planning committees, and represent UCSB in data exchange consortia.
