Basic FunctionsProvide quality instruction and create a learning environment that encourages discussion of ideas, interests, and issues. Primary duties involve curriculum and teaching, balanced between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Adjunct instructional faculty must be available to students outside of class.
Essential Functions of PositionDeliver instruction in assigned courses, develop and maintain course materials, assess student performance, and participate in faculty meetings. The role requires teaching in both lecture and lab settings, with students’ schedules and department priorities guiding assignment of duties.
Education and ExperienceMinimum qualifications must meet state and institutional standards, including:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) or an associate degree with the requisite professional experience.
- At least two years of professional experience for bachelor’s degree holders, or six years for associate degree holders.
- Professional experience is required for candidates possessing a master’s degree, directly related to the teaching assignment.
- Valid, current California licensure or certification appropriate to the discipline (e.g., registered nurse, certified health‑services professional). Specific requirements are outlined in § 53411 and § 53417 of the bulletin.
- Evidence of cultural sensitivity toward diverse student populations.
The incumbent must be able to:
- Teach effectively in an indoor or outdoor classroom setting.
- Communicate clearly with a variety of audiences.
- Move freely around campus, including driving if required.
- Perform physical tasks such as stretching, lifting, and using conventional office equipment.
- Adapt to variable work hours and interruptions.
