Essential functions include providing quality instruction and creating an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning, encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues. Prime duties are related to curriculum and teaching; the workload is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Part‑time faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.

Starting credit part‑time faculty rates from salary table 11: $102.90 per hour for lecture and $82.33 per hour for lab. With a doctorate: $107.87 per hour for lecture and $86.30 per hour for lab.

Teach the SBCC courses in Ecological Restoration (EH112 & EH113). Courses cover principles of ecological restoration, restoration design and planning, characterization of reference habitats, working with various governmental and other stakeholders, monitoring, restoration philosophy, ethics and history. Both hands‑on native plant propagation techniques and ecological restoration knowledge are emphasized. Courses are taught each spring, alternating between EH112 and EH113.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

• Master’s degree in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural areas (e.g., agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture, or other agriculture science).
• OR the equivalent combination of education and other accomplishments; applicants claiming equivalency must attach supporting statements and evidence.
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Qualification:

Previous teaching experience and background in ecological restoration; alternatively professional experience in the field will meet minimum requirements.
