UC Santa Barbara Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) integrates the academic excellence of the University of California with practical, career-relevant education in a premier Southern California location. PaCE's International Programs provide selected students from around the world with the opportunity to experience U.S. college life while enhancing their education and skills through customized, specialized coursework. In this context, the PaCE Director of International Programs (Continuing Educator II) is responsible for the independent administration, management, development, and coordination of all International Programs offered by PaCE.
The incumbent serves as PaCE's primary liaison with international partners and universities. Furthermore, the Director of International Programs provides strategic leadership and oversight of PaCE's international initiatives, aligning programs with institutional goals while advising leadership on growth, collaboration, and operational efficiency. They supervise staff and program operations, oversee the development and assessment of academic and co-curricular offerings, and ensure effective admissions, student support, and communication processes to promote student success.
The Director leads recruitment and outreach efforts by establishing policies, developing strategies to meet enrollment targets, managing partnerships with international institutions and agencies, and collaborating on marketing materials. Additionally, they monitor recruitment effectiveness, coordinate across departments, and manage data, budgeting, reporting, and financial planning to support sustainable program growth.
Duties Include:
Leadership Under the general direction of the PaCE Dean and in collaboration with the Associate Dean, the Director of International Programs:
Provides vision, leadership, and planning for international program initiatives consistent with PaCE's Strategic Plan. Serves as the primary resource for the identification and analysis of best practices and national trends related to international program efforts. Supervises the International PaCE Programs Team, and its coordination with PaCE Programs and Operational Support units (Finance, Marketing, Customer Success and Outreach). Supervises the recruitment, performance management, and professional development of staff within International Programs.
Advises PaCE Leadership, seeking growth opportunities, collaboration among PaCE programs, and synergistic efficiency.
Student Program Development, Retention, and Support Develops, maintains, and assesses PaCE's portfolio of international programs and alignment with its mission. Oversees curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities to enhance student engagement, retention, and completion;
Oversees admissions processes, academic and student support, and communications with prospective and current international students.
Recruitment & Outreach Establishes admissions policies and procedures;
Develops and implements a robust recruitment program to meet PaCE enrollment goals. In collaboration with Marketing, oversees production of outreach materials (application materials, web materials, admissions brochures, and other pertinent prospective student materials) for international programs. Cultivates and establishes strategic and contractual agreements with international university officials, government agencies, educational organizations, and agents, managing these relationships to meet or exceed PaCE's international student recruitment goals.
Liaises with assisting agencies such as the US Department of Commerce, National Association for Foreign Student Affairs, etc., to increase international student enrollment. Monitors the effectiveness of outreach and recruitment efforts, develops short- and long-range plans, and refines the plan as needed for international student recruitment. Engages regularly and systematically with other university and PaCE departments regarding student stages in the recruitment and enrollment pipeline.
