The Department of Film and Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara is seeking a lecturer to teach courses in the academic year, with options including Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters, and potentially Summer 2027. Areas of Specialization include history, critical analysis, and theory of film, television, and digital media. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department.
Positions may range from 22% to 100% time.
One Fall quarter course is FAMST 192:
Film and Media Theory. This is a 5-unit theory course that explores an area of film, television, or media theory in-depth depending on the instructor's expertise. Specific topics are open for discussion; earlier emphases have included classical, contemporary, and comparative theories of film and media. New iterations of this course can be developed according to instructor interest. It includes 2 lectures per week of 2 hours each and discussion sections led by teaching assistants.
