Playground Supervisor

Salary Schedule Range: 16

Starting pay rate (based on experience) $20.08 - $21.56

Purpose of Position:
To provide safe and constant recess or lunchroom supervision of students.

Reporting:
Reports to a school site administrator, typically a Principal.

Employment Status:
Part-time, 1-4 hours per day (FLSA Non-exempt).

Essential Functions:

  • Provide supervision of students on the playground, during lunch or snack times, and at school events.
  • Be aware of and implement school rules, policies and safety standards.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, indoors or outdoors, to the school principal or designee.
  • Alert the appropriate teacher to any problem or special situation about individual students.
  • Resolve disputes or disagreements between students using techniques and protocols that are in alignment with school site or District policies, such as Restorative Approaches.
  • Maintain consistent attendance.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Outdoor and indoor work environments, some exposure to weather conditions, wind, sun or rain. Hearing and speaking in order to receive and provide directions; seeing to read documents or notices; bending, crouching and kneeling to assist students; standing and walking and reaching; ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the activities and interests of children of diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of positive reinforcement skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate, friendly and cooperative working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to serve as an effective role model for students.
  • Ability to perform physical activities which may include frequent standing, walking, bending, or reaching.
  • Ability to direct and respond appropriately to students.
  • Ability to occasionally support students with medical or health needs.

Education, Training and

Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that meet the requirements of the position.

Additional Requirements:

Must complete Live Scan fingerprint check; current TB test and any other required vaccinations.
