Basic Functions

Pathways HOME Student Program Advisor Under the direction of the Director of Student Equity and Engagement Programs the Pathways HOME Student Program Advisor (SPA) serves as a primary point of contact for credit based studentsexperiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. The Pathways HOMESPA provides student advising and support services, student intake,resource navigation, and student advocacy. The Pathways HOME SPAimproves student success by ensuring responsive,culturally-sensitive, support services working closely with campusand community partners to remove barriers to education retention,completion, and success.

School of Extended Learning Basic Needs/Pathways HOMEStudent Program Advisor Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Equity and Basic Needs (SEL) The SEL Basic Needs/Pathways HOME Housing Student Program Advisor (SPA )serves as a primary point of contact for noncredit students in need of housing support and other basic needsinsecurities including but not limited to food, housing, childcare,transportation, physical and mental wellness, hygiene, and technology, etc.

The SEL Basic Needs/Pathways HOME SPA works withinthe SEL Basic Needs Centers to provide advising and support services, student intake, resource navigation, and studentadvocacy. The SEL Basic Needs/Pathways HOME SPA will work closely with the SEL campus programs and community partners to remove barriers to education retention, completion, and success.

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide a variety of outreach and support services for an assigned student servicesprogram; assist program participants with obtaining and maintaining program enrollment; monitor the attendance, goals and progress ofprogram participants; provide program information to students,parents and the community.

Representative Duties
  • Provide a variety of outreach and support services for assigned student services program, including admissions, enrollment services, dual enrollment, EOPS/CARE, financial aid, international students,student life activities, orientation, Cal-SOAP, Cal Works,athletics, student health services, STEP or other assigned program;provide individual case management for program participants.
  • Assist program participants obtain and maintain program enrollment;recruit, refer and register students to assigned programs;interview potential enrollees; assist student with completing andassure accuracy and completeness of required forms and applications; determine applicant eligibility, waivers and enrollstudents as appropriate; refer students to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Monitor the attendance, goals and progress of program participants;collaborate with students to develop and implement individual goalsand strategies; assist students with enhancing a variety of skillsrelated to program activities; advise students concerningindividual progress and program activities.
  • Confer with students, parents, personnel and the community to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns regarding program activities and student progress;initiate and receive phone calls; respond to inquiries and provide information.
  • Prepare and conduct workshops and formal presentations for an assigned program to local community organizations, private andpublic schools and other recruiting sources as directed; conducton-campus tours for potential students and parents; attend job and college fairs and other events to promote SBCC programs and services.
  • Input student information into SEVIS or other assigned computer system; generate computerized reports as needed; update and maintain related data bases, websites and other computerinformation as assigned by the position.
