Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher collaborates in planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate curriculum for children in the Early Childhood Care and Education Services (ECCES) as prescribed by the National Association of the Education of Young Children. The Teacher shares responsibility with the Lead Teacher to set up indoor and outdoor environment, maintain a safe, clean and pleasant setting, model best practice, and communicate with parents.

The Teacher ensures compliance with state and local codes, works cooperatively with other staff, and performs child assessment, classroom management, and professional development duties.

• Develop weekly plans and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum (activity plans) to nurture all domains of children’s development.
• Adopt a primary caregiver model in infant classrooms for feeding, diapering, comforting, and napping.
• Provide responsive care, adapting routines and plans to meet individual child and group needs.
• Coordinate curriculum and evaluate children’s needs with the Lead Teacher.
• Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for families’ backgrounds, incorporating value into program and activities.
• Participate in interdisciplinary teams (IEP, IFSP, mandated reporter, etc.) and share documentation.
• Assist with parent intake conferences, maintain open communication, and conduct family conferences as scheduled.
• Maintain classroom family information board and post weekly messages on Parent Square.
• Ensure a healthy, safe, clean environment meeting Title 5, Title 22, and NAEYC standards.
• Assist with nutrition and food service compliance with CDE and licensing guidelines.
• Keep up with state licensing guidelines and maintain accurate, timely records (attendance, meal, health checks).
• Support and provide guidance to teaching assistants and other personnel.
• Report staffing or classroom concerns, complete health checks, and administer medications when authorized.
• Assist in development and completion of DRDP, ITERS/ECERS and action plans.
• Assume Lead Teacher duties in absence.
• Conduct ongoing developmental evaluations, prepare progress reports and assessments as required.
• Participate in professional development, required trainings, and maintain valid Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum completion of 6 ECE units, working toward 12 core ECE units for eligibility for a Child Development Permit through the CA Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
• High‑school diploma.

• Associate’s degree in Child Development or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field.
• Minimum of one year experience in Early Childhood Education (student teaching included).

• Minimum Associate Teacher Child Development permit, working toward a Teacher permit issued through the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
• Negative TB result valid within one year of hire, proof of required immunizations.
• Valid Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification prior to start date.
• Completion of required fingerprint background check.
• Completion of CA Mandated Reporting requirements (Title 22) and Child Abuse reporting.
• Compliance with UCSB Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act.
