The Asian American Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for qualified lecturers with strong research training and innovative pedagogic experience to teach courses in critical health justice. Ideally, the successful candidate will be hired to develop and teach both small and large courses as part of the Department’s new health justice track, including an introductory course on health justice & community.

We are especially interested in candidates whose scholarly interests go beyond standard biomedical and public health approaches to teach interdisciplinary health justice centered courses on such topics as: critical disability studies, food justice, environmental/climate justice, health disparities/policy, reproductive care, indigenous knowledge production, community healing practices, migrant health care, medical racism/apartheid, colonial medicine, etc. And, while an on-going research agenda is not expected of this position, candidates must show evidence of strong research training in order to teach research methods (qualitative/humanistic or quantitative) as part of their teaching repertoire.

• Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) trained in a social science or relevant interdisciplinary field such as feminist, queer, global, ethnic and/or Asian American studies is a minimum requirement.
  • Candidate must have at least one year of teaching experience.
• Preferred qualifications
  • More than one year of teaching experience and a strong record of innovative, community-engaged teaching desired. Evidence of strong research training in critical health justice in order to teach research methods (qualitative/humanistic or quantitative) as part of their teaching repertoire.
