Job DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for creating innovative tools that solve complex problems and enable professionals in rope rescue, rope access, and work-at-height industries to perform their jobs with greater safety and efficiency.
This is a highly hands-on, collaborative role that works closely with Engineering, Product Strategy, Operations, Marketing, training teams, and industry experts. The ideal candidate is passionate about mechanical design, enjoys seeing products through the full development lifecycle, and thrives in a team-based environment.
What You Will DoProduct Design- Lead new product development efforts for rope hardware, harnesses, systems, and related equipment from concept through production.
- Improve and update existing product designs to enhance performance, safety, and manufacturability.
- Apply sound engineering principles, calculations, and analysis to design components, assemblies, and subassemblies.
- Perform tolerance analysis and define appropriate GD&T on engineering drawings.
- Create and maintain complete product data packages, including drawings, bills of materials, technical packs, and component specifications.
- Document design decisions and analysis through technical reports and design review presentations.
- Manage project responsibilities such as budgeting, scheduling, task estimation, and cross-functional coordination.
- Collaborate with product management to develop product requirements and specifications.
- Build proof-of-concept prototypes using rapid manufacturing methods and onsite equipment.
- Develop test protocols and validation plans to ensure compliance with applicable industry standards.
- Conduct product testing in an onsite test lab and generate detailed test reports.
- Explore new concepts, materials, technologies, and processes to enhance design capabilities and influence product strategy.
- Document findings and present insights to cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant mechanical design experience preferred. More experience is welcome.
- At least 3 years of 3D modeling experience required. Solid Works experience is highly desirable.
