The Lead Laborer serves as the custodial crew leader and is the working lead for a team of senior custodians, student employees, and seasonal workers. Responsible for work assignment and quality, safety, employee training, building security, oversight of special projects and maintenance tasks, emergency response and customer service. Also responsible for equipment maintenance for the building. In compliance with division goals and objectives, affirms and implements the department’s Educational Equity Plan.
Responsibilitiesand Job Functions
- Leadership and Communication (30%): Directs work of assigned staff, assists and provides input to the manager for performance assessments, discusses attendance and quality control issues, works with management to establish annual goals, develops teamwork, coordinates team decision making, encourages teamwork, trains employees, coordinates reporting process, oversees custodial and maintenance needs, coordinates work with trades persons, leads team meetings, communicates effectively, sets attendance example, reports daily attendance, supports department initiatives, and supports technical operations.
- Technical Operations (35%): Performs custodial tasks including dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, walls, floors, metal fixtures, and more; operates vacuums, floor mops, etc.; cleans and inspects, locks areas, performs minor maintenance, sets up chairs, tables, special functions.
- Customer Service (20%): Ensures cleanliness & customer satisfaction, resolves service issues, contacts occupants and leads, encourages feedback, schedules managers’ requests, maintains positive relationships.
- Special Projects & Emergency Response (10%): Coordinates special project work, processes paperwork, ensures compliance, assists in emergency response teams.
- Safety & Security (5%): Maintains awareness of hazards, monitors safety, follows procedures, trains employees, reports accidents, ensures security, assists in lockup/unlock.
- 3 years of custodial or maintenance work experience in an institution and/or commercial setting.
- High school diploma.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work standing up to 8 hours per shift.
