Location:
Santa Barbara, CA- GC will pay for housing costs.
Compensation: $170K to $220K base depending on experience
Position OverviewWe are seeking a senior level Lead Project Manager to oversee complex public works construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role is ideal for a hands on leader who has successfully delivered DSA, K 12, higher education, or other municipal projects and can manage teams, budgets, and client relationships at a high level.
The Lead Project Manager will play a critical role in project execution, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a key point of contact for owners, inspectors, and design partners.
Key Responsibilities- Lead full project lifecycle delivery from preconstruction through closeout
- Manage multiple public works projects simultaneously depending on size and complexity
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost controls, and forecasting
- Coordinate with owners, architects, consultants, inspectors, and jurisdictional agencies
- Lead meetings including OAC, subcontractor coordination, and internal project reviews
- Ensure compliance with DSA, prevailing wage, certified payroll, and public contracting requirements
- Review subcontracts, change orders, and pay applications
- Mentor and support Project Managers, Engineers, and support staff
- Proactively identify and mitigate risk related to scope, schedule, and cost
- Maintain high standards for quality, safety, and documentation
- Minimum 10 plus years of construction project management experience
- Strong background delivering public works projects such as K 12, higher education, civic, or municipal facilities
- Proven experience with DSA oversight and inspections
- Strong understanding of prevailing wage and public sector compliance
- Ability to lead teams and manage client relationships effectively
- Experience managing projects from $20M to $150M plus preferred
- Proficiency with project management software such as Procore, MS Project, or similar
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience working for a general contractor focused on public sector work
- Local or regional experience within California public works markets
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating with executive leadership
