New Beginnings Counseling Center is hiring an SSVF Program Coordinator; this is a 40-hour per week, exempt position, with benefits.

New Beginnings’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program operates on a Housing First model to help end veteran homelessness in Santa Barbara County. The program’s goal is to help veterans attain housing stability through short-term case management and financial assistance. We serve those in danger of losing their housing, and those who are homeless and in need of help in obtaining permanent housing.

The SSVF Program Coordinator will report directly to the Program Manager of the New Beginnings SSVF Program and is responsible for assisting the Program Manager with the daily oversight of program operations; this is a largely administrative role. Responsibilities and tasks primarily include assisting with grant oversight, implementing SSVF initiatives, supporting program staff with the administrative component of case management, and providing administrative support to SSVF Program leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating and assisting with oversight of programmatic activities
  • Assisting SSVF Program Leadership with maintaining program and grant compliance
  • Data tracking and ongoing coordination with SSVF Data Entry Specialist to maintain data integrity and quality
  • Assisting with grant reporting and general administrative duties as they relate to grant-specific activities
  • Assisting with the coordination of needed or necessary training for program staff
  • Assisting with the coordination of scheduling internal and external meetings related to the SSVF program
  • Assisting with overseeing client compliance with program rules and regulations
  • Providing administrative support to SSVF program staff
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of all paperwork and necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner to the appropriate parties
  • Maintaining client files in accordance with funding regulations
  • Is responsible for maintaining and tracking changes as they pertain to the SSVF Program Manual and CARF Accreditation
  • Assisting SSVF Program Leadership with tracking all required program data
  • Provide information to community members and organizations about the program, as requested by program leadership
  • Assist the Homeless Services Director and Executive Director as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager, Homeless Services Director, or Executive Director

The ideal candidate has experience in a social service setting, as a program coordinator or team leader, and understands the framework for providing case management services to the homeless population, including Veteran culture. He/she should embrace the Housing First approach to helping homeless individuals and families stabilize and return to permanent and traditional housing. Additionally, the ideal candidate has experience with and knowledge of affordable housing programs, such as Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Emergency Housing Voucher programs.

Experience with HMIS is preferred, and a solid demonstrated ability to use complex software and Microsoft Excel for data collection and reporting is required.

The position requires the Program Coordinator to be an empathetic, compassionate listener with clear boundaries and the ability to coordinate and organize the activities of a robust, busy program. The Program Coordinator must have a demonstrated ability to multitask, coordinate community-wide activities, collaborate with partner agencies, and implement grant/programmatic activities. The position requires initiative, resourcefulness, significant attention to detail, effective time management, self-direction, and the ability to work autonomously.

A master’s degree in psychology, social work, or counseling is preferred but not required. Weekly administrative supervision will be provided.

Work hours are Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, with occasional nighttime and weekend hours for community events and to address urgent programming, reporting, or grant deadlines. Must have a working vehicle with liability insurance and pass a background check.
