Emergency Veterinary Technician, Advanced Veterinary Technician
We are Advanced Veterinary Specialists in Santa Barbara, a full‑time day veterinary technician wanted for our ER team.
Who we areAdvanced Veterinary Specialists has board‑certified specialists in surgery, oncology, internal medicine, cardiology, and dentistry, and a skilled team of emergency veterinarians. We are proud of the doctors we have appointed to provide the highest level of care to pets.
Duties and responsibilities- Triage and prioritize incoming patients
- Stabilize patients in critical condition
- Assist with diagnostic procedures
- Administer medications and fluids
- Provide wound care and post‑surgical support
- Monitor vital signs and report abnormalities
- Assist during surgeries and emergency procedures
- Communicate with pet owners
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitization
- Educate pet owners on aftercare
- Collaborate with the veterinary team
- Stay updated through continuing education
- Offer compassion and emotional support to patients and owners
Hourly range: $26.00 – $35.00 plus $2.00 differenceials for hours worked between 6 pm‑6 am.
Basic required qualifications- High‑school diploma
- 2+ years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry
; ER experience preferred - Current and valid RVT license in CA is preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface with staff and clients with tact, patience and professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion
- Consistent ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates
- Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60 days of hire or transfer into this role (waived if holder has a valid CA‑RVT license)
- Full‑time
