Emergency Veterinary Technician, Advanced Veterinary Technician

We are Advanced Veterinary Specialists in Santa Barbara, a full‑time day veterinary technician wanted for our ER team.

Advanced Veterinary Specialists has board‑certified specialists in surgery, oncology, internal medicine, cardiology, and dentistry, and a skilled team of emergency veterinarians. We are proud of the doctors we have appointed to provide the highest level of care to pets.

• Triage and prioritize incoming patients
• Stabilize patients in critical condition
• Assist with diagnostic procedures
• Administer medications and fluids
• Provide wound care and post‑surgical support
• Monitor vital signs and report abnormalities
• Assist during surgeries and emergency procedures
• Communicate with pet owners
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Ensure cleanliness and sanitization
• Educate pet owners on aftercare
• Collaborate with the veterinary team
• Stay updated through continuing education
• Offer compassion and emotional support to patients and owners

Hourly range: $26.00 – $35.00 plus $2.00 differenceials for hours worked between 6 pm‑6 am.

• High‑school diploma
• 2+ years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry
  ; ER experience preferred
• Current and valid RVT license in CA is preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills to interface with staff and clients with tact, patience and professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion
• Consistent ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates
• Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60 days of hire or transfer into this role (waived if holder has a valid CA‑RVT license)
