Position: Jr. Specialist - Astrophysics and Theoretical Physics, Dept. of Physics (Pooled Recruitment #1)

Overview

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified Junior Specialists to conduct research across all disciplines, including Astrophysics and Cosmology, Condensed Matter Theory, and High Energy Theory. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies with department needs and may be part-time or 100% time, and may be for 1 year or less than 1 year.

Appointees at this level enable research as part of a team.

Please note, there are two Jr. Specialist pooled recruitments. If your area of specialization is astrophysics or theoretical physics (Condensed Matter Theory or High Energy Theory), please apply for Pool #1 (JPF
03029). If your area of specialization meets the qualifications for General Physics, please apply for Pool #2 (JPF
03129).

The position will remain open until September 30, 2026 to accommodate department needs. If you would like to continue to be considered after that time, and the pool position is advertised again, you will need to submit a new application. The use of a temporary research titles pool does not guarantee an open position at the time of application. See the Next Review Date specified in UC Recruit to learn whether the department is currently interviewing applications for an upcoming opening.

If there is no future review date specified, your application may not be considered at this time.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physics or a closely related field, or being enrolled in a Bachelor’s program at the time of application.

Notes

Responsibilities include conducting research as part of a team across physics disciplines and contributing to department research activities.
