Job Duties
Under supervision, performs a wide variety of tasks following guidelines which often must be applied independently with knowledge of University policy and museum practices. Duties include but are not limited to: greets and serves as first point of contact for all museum visitors; provides general information about exhibitions, upcoming exhibitions and events; responsible for opening and closing the museum; provides advice to all building users on operations, safety procedures and security;
runs the Museum's Front Office; coordinates ordering of supplies and manages office equipment; works on travel, reimbursement, purchasing, and UC Regents and UCSB Foundation gift accounts paperwork; handles gift funds, including gift acceptance and transfers; other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1-3 years Experience managing online calendars and timelines
- Three years' hands‑on customer service with progressively responsible supervisory experience is required. Experience preferably in a hospitality, retail or museum role. Ability to interact with diverse audiences and constituents, including staff, volunteers, members and visitors, work well under pressure and remain calm.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to manage temporary student staff.
- Ability to create schedules for student staff.
- Basic budgeting skills.
- Ability to interpret information / assess situations and independently solve problems.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check

- 35% Facility Operations - Opens and closes the museum, card key and alarm; turns on electronic components which are part of the exhibitions. Answers questions and assists visitors to the Museum. Records gallery attendance, and schedules tours. Provides information and advice to all building users on operations, safety procedures, and security. Handles financial transactions, catalog sales and memberships and donation box.
