Job Summary:
The Aerial Drop Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial telecommunications drop lines from distribution points to customer premises. This role supports fiber and coaxial network deployment and requires working safely at heights, operating specialized equipment, and adhering to all company, customer, and State safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Install aerial drop lines (fiber, telephone lines and/or coax) from pole to premise in accordance with construction prints and customer specifications
- Secure cable to existing aerial infrastructure
- Climb utility poles using gaffs or operate bucket trucks to complete installations
- Perform basic splicing, terminations, and testing of fiber, telephone lines and/or coax drops
- Ensure proper grounding and bonding per applicable codes and standards
- Conduct site assessments and identify potential hazards or access issues
- Maintain accurate documentation of work completed, including photos and as-builts
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and customers
- Follow all safety protocols, including Cal/OSHA regulations and company safety policies
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in good working condition
- Inspect and test CATV, coax, telephone lines and/or fiber
- Drive and operate line vehicles and station them properly for the work to be done
- Adhere to all safety requirements and procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Organize materials and basic hand tools necessary to complete project requirements
- Complete all required Company documentation; maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment inspections
- Other duties as assigned
Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
Experience- 1+ year of experience in telecommunications construction or related field preferred
- Experience with aerial fiber, telephone lines and/or coax installation strongly preferred
- Ability to climb poles and work at heights (up to 40+ feet)
- Basic understanding of construction prints and network layouts
- Three years of pole climbing experience, preferred
- Ability to operate a bucket truck
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and codes
- Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
- Ability to use hand tools
- Experience operating bucket trucks
- Knowledge of fiber optics and telephone, including basic splicing and testing
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and ensure that work is completed within the established time frames
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 75 lbs.; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
- Ability to work in various settings with moderate to loud noise levels
- Ability to climb and work at heights
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
- Ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
- May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
