Imaginarium Manager
To maintain the Imaginarium, SCU's VR Lab, to support the work of SCU faculty in matters related to mixed reality, digital art, and digital humanities, and to act as a resource for students on campus interested in mixed reality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Systems Maintenance
- Checking and frequently updating the software on the lab workstations
- Installing new software as necessary and requested by faculty and students using the lab
- Protecting systems from tampering or customization inappropriate under SCU standards
- Maintaining mixed reality hardware (e.g. VR headsets and controllers, 360 cameras, etc.)
- Creating and enforcing lab guidelines on cleanliness and equipment usage
2. Lab Promotion and Outreach (Certain tasks outlined may be delegated to student workers)
- Welcoming visitors to the Imaginarium
- Assisting visitors with finding and trying out VR experiences
- Engaging with visitors who are curious about mixed reality
- Partnering with other labs/groups on campus for projects
- Planning and hosting field trips and workshops for groups of visitors
- Planning and hosting open house and campus tour visitors
- Hosting student organization/club activities
3. Research Support
- Consulting with professors and companies on how to plan, design, and implement mixed reality projects and experiments
- Staying up to date with current mixed reality technology, approaches, and developments
- Providing direction and guidance on project management and product development
- Overseeing, assisting with, or providing training for user testing and experimental procedures
4. Curriculum Development
- Creating curriculum on mixed reality development - coding, user experience design, art, etc.
- Assisting with classes held in the Imaginarium, particularly in classes to do with mixed reality
- Demonstrating mixed reality development skills and concepts
- Providing expertise in user experience design, mixed reality development, and digital humanities perspectives for faculty and student discussions
- Cultivating and maintaining a library of mixed reality experiences and demos as "class reading" applicable for courses taught at SCU
5. Student Worker Development
- Recruiting, hiring, and training student workers for mixed reality development
- Assigning student workers to faculty, external partner, or Imaginarium projects
- Overseeing and managing student projects
6. Other duties as assigned
Provides Work DirectionThis position supervises a team of student employees.
General Guidelines- Maintains lab hardware and software
- Develops and implements guidelines on Imaginarium lab usage
- Maintains and develops a library of mixed reality experiences and research
- Maintains data on lab usage by in-person traffic and faculty assistance
- Recommends class materials for faculty
- Helps to plan and implement faculty research projects
- Contributes to SCU's curriculum on mixed reality
- Teaches student workers mixed reality development skills and assigns them to faculty projects
- Manages student projects to ensure quality and university learning outcomes
- Maintains contact with external SCU partners, faculty, staff, and student organizations
- Acts as a face for the university to prospective students, external partners, and visitors

1. Knowledge- Experience with the mixed reality development pipeline, including but not limited to:
- Object-oriented programming
- Game design
- 3D modeling and animation
- Environment design
- User experience design
- User testing
- Up-to-date knowledge on technologies surrounding mixed reality
- Digital humanities concepts related to mixed reality development
- Coding in C++, C#, or an equivalent object-oriented language
