Overview
Part‑time Associate Faculty Pool (Associate Instructor). Teaching assignments in lecture‑discussion courses, day, evening, Saturday or online/distance; scheduled in Spring, Summer or Fall semesters.
Work location:
Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparing for in‑class or online/distance education activities, evaluating student work, consulting with students, and maintaining subject currency.
- Maintain accurate class and other records; submit attendance rosters and grade reports on time.
- Follow course outlines filed in instruction offices.
- Maintain office hours (.5 hour per week per section).
- Observe, support, and enforce district and college regulations, policies, and programs.
- Provide students with a written syllabus at course start, per the Faculty Handbook.
- Refer students to appropriate college services for counseling, etc.
- Assist students with advice on successful achievement in the area of expertise.
- Work cooperatively within the college community; foster an environment that protects academic freedom.
- Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice, and bias.
- Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
- Education:
one of the following:
Master’s degree in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; OR Bachelor’s degree in one of the above plus a Master’s degree in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English; OR a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Communication Studies; OR equivalent. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Salary and BenefitsSalary based on a percentage of workload, up to 67% of a full‑time load. Initial hiring salary range $36,191–$52,297 per semester, prorated based on academic achievement, teaching and related experience.

Selection Process- Applications screened by relevant department representatives on an as‑needed basis.
- Qualified applicants will be contacted for interview. Travel expenses for interview are the applicant’s responsibility.
