Position Title: Part-Time Public Health Instructor
Campus: Mission College
Work Location: West Valley College, Saratoga, CA
Position Summary: Part‑time associate faculty teaching public health courses (lecture, laboratory, hybrid, online, community‑based). Assignments may occur during the day, evening, weekends, or summer sessions as needed.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation of in‑class or online activities and evaluation of student work.
- Maintain accurate class and recordkeeping required by the college.
- Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
- Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
- Maintain weekly office hours of at least 0.5 hours per week per section.
- Observe, support, and enforce district and college policies and programs.
- Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course.
- Refer students to appropriate college resources for counseling and other services.
- Assist students with advice on successful achievement in the discipline.
- Work cooperatively within the college community.
- Promote an environment that protects academic freedom and is free from harassment, prejudice, or bias.
- Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67% of a full‑time load. It is prorated based on an initial hiring salary range of $40,387 – $58,360 per semester, and is based on academic achievement, teaching, and related experience.
Minimum Qualifications- Either a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant, professional healthcare experience, OR an associate’s degree and six (6) years of relevant, professional healthcare experience.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds, including disability and sexual orientation.
- Recent professional experience in healthcare, public health, emergency response, allied health, or a closely related field.
- Experience teaching, training, or mentoring adult learners in academic, clinical, or community settings.
- Knowledge of current evidence‑based practices in health science, public health, CPR, first aid, and emergency response.
