Special Education Instructional Assistant

This position requires the candidate to have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education OR the ability to demonstrate, through a formal local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (or readiness in those subjects, as appropriate). Testing TBD. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or groups of students placed in special education programs because of severe emotional and behavior issues, and/or other limiting conditions.

Candidate will monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; perform a variety of clerical and instructional duties in support of the instructional program as required by the disabling/limiting condition of the student according to established Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Qualifications:

Candidate must be a high school graduate and have one year of experience working in a special education program or in an organized setting. Candidate should have knowledge of principles and practices relating to Special Education, subjects taught in District schools, and principles and techniques of providing instructional assistance in a variety of subject areas. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, as well as good oral and written communication skills are essential.
