This is a full-time, on-site role based in Santa Clara, CA, for a Display Systems Applications Engineer – Augmented Reality (AR), with expertise in AR display architectures, including: wave guides, microdisplays, optical engines, and human visual system constraints. The role involves providing technical support to clients, troubleshooting and resolving complex system issues, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to optimize product performance. Additional responsibilities include software development for display systems, debugging software and hardware interactions, and programming solutions to enhance AR display functionalities.
You will contribute to refining next‑generation wearable AR experiences through close collaboration with R&D and engineering teams.
- Define and evaluate AR display architectures using wave guides, micro
LED microdisplays and combiners. - Support customers with display module integration, bring‑up, calibration, and SDK usage.
- Work closely with business development and product management on customer requirements.
- Perform system‑level performance analysis across environmental and usage conditions.
- Develop test plans for display modules: luminance, colorimetry, uniformity, MTF, eyebox mapping, FOV, and distortion.
- Work with vendors and manufacturing to validate optical modules and support root‑cause analysis.
- Partner with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software teams to deliver display subsystems for prototypes and production hardware.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Display Technology, Human Factors, or related field.
- Hands‑on experience with AR display systems, including one or more of:
Waveguide optics (surface‑relief, holographic, reflective), Micro
LED microdisplays, Optical engines, illumination paths, and projection - Strong understanding of the human visual system, including: contrast sensitivity, color perception, accommodation/vergence, visual comfort and readability
- Familiarity with display measurement equipment (imaging colorimeters, spot meters).
- Ability to work across disciplines and communicate complex topics clearly.
- Experience shipping consumer AR/VR products.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes for wave guides or microdisplays.
- Experience with calibration, alignment, or image‑processing pipelines for AR systems.
- Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, C/C++) for data analysis or system control.
- Experience with stray‑light modeling, tolerance analysis, or environmental qualification.
