Position: Senior NPI Technician (opto-electromechanical)

Opportunity

The Sr. NPI Technician (opto-electromechanical) supports the transition of new products from development to pilot manufacturing, ensuring manufacturability, quality, manufacturing process testing, and successful launch of our complex machines. This highly hands‑on role involves collaboration with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to identify potential issues, develop solutions, and implement processes for a smooth New Product Introduction (NPI).

Role and Responsibilities Prototype Builds & Pilot Manufacturing
  • Build complex electro‑mechanical, mechanical, and opto‑mechanical sub‑assemblies.
  • Conduct module tests on electrical, mechanical, and optical systems; troubleshoot any issues.
  • Perform integration tests on the assembled system; analyze results and troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct system tests to understand environmental performance, failure modes, and real‑world reliability.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, generate detailed reports, and provide feedback on performance and recommended improvements.
  • Ensure the floor environment is safe, organized, and compliant with Safety and 5S standards.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Develop and apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Support prototype builds with engineering teams.
  • Train, mentor, and support new team members as needed.
  • Utilize PLM systems such as Arena PLM/QMS to support efficient Pilot Manufacturing workflows.
Problem Solving & Collaboration
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues with test setups, hardware, and software to ensure smooth pilot manufacturing flows.
  • Support review of non‑conformances in MRB; conduct failure analysis, dispositions, and documentation of all findings; triage issues and recommend next steps.
  • Execute rework tasks such as cable crimping, soldering components, threading taps, cleaning optics, and re‑alignment.
  • Perform root‑cause analyses using structured methods to verify solutions.
  • Define, implement, and improve products, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain to ensure a successful product launch.
Qualifications
  • A.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field; a B.S. in Engineering or related is a plus.
  • 5+ years of assembly and test experience in capital equipment, preferably WFE industry.
  • Strong learning agility across mechanical, electrical, optical, and software domains.
  • Experience with high‑precision laser & optomechanical assemblies (build, align, test).
  • Working knowledge of AC/D.C. power systems, P&, electrical, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Wire harness assembly and soldering experience, preferably with PCBAs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PCB‑level troubleshooting, component identification, and schematic reading.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude: torque specs, fastener selection, cable routing, and ESD safety.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, programmable power supplies).
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical, opto‑mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy during assembly, test, and documentation.
  • Able to write and follow SOPs and work instructions.
  • Self‑motivated, autonomous, capable of managing tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; data‑driven decision making.
  • Proficient in reading mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with CAD/ERP/MRP/PLM/QMS systems.
  • Precise measurement skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, gauge blocks, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics.
  • Class 4 Laser and optical system experience.
  • Knowledge of ESD, IPC J‑STD‑001, and IPC‑A‑610 standards; certifications preferred.
  • Experience in WFE, Aerospace, Defense, Optical, or Medical equipment industries.
  • Experience working in a 100,000+ class cleanroom environment.
  • Experience setting up and running tests and experiments.
  • Methodical root‑cause analysis experience.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Solid Works, Net Suite ERP/MRP, and Arena PLM/QMS.
  • Certifications such as 5S, Lean, Six Sigma.
