Hitachi America, Ltd. has an opening for an AI and Data Engineer in the IT Innovation and AI Solutions team located in Silicon Valley. The mission of the team is to create new and innovative solutions that utilize artificial intelligence and advanced analytics of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The IT Innovation team focuses on research, technology innovation, proof-of-concept activities, technical marketing and business development for novel AI solutions.

We are seeking a talented AI and Data Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in the development and enhancement of our Generative AI Platform. You will design, test, and optimize prompts that enable AI models to generate high-quality, contextual content across applications.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product managers, to understand use cases and requirements for the Generative AI Platform.
• Research capabilities, limitations, and best practices of leading Generative AI models (e.g., Perplexity, ChatGPT/Azure AI, NVIDIA language models).
• Develop and refine prompts that leverage the strengths of AI models to generate accurate, coherent content aligned with the desired tone, style, and purpose.
• Conduct extensive testing and evaluation of prompts, iterating to optimize performance, safety, and ethical considerations.
• Maintain a comprehensive prompt library and documentation to ensure reusability and consistency across the platform.
• Develop tools and frameworks to streamline the prompt engineering process, including templates, scoring metrics, and automated prompt generation capabilities.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Generative AI, NLP, and prompt engineering, and incorporate new techniques into the platform.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate prompt engineering capabilities into the Generative AI Platform, ensuring a seamless user experience and scalability.
• Provide training and support to platform users on effective prompt design and usage.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, or a related field. (PhD preferred)
• Extensive experience in natural language processing, text generation, and prompt engineering.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and Markdown, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex challenges.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working in a cross-functional team.
• Familiarity with leading Generative AI models (e.g., Perplexity, Azure GPT, NVIDIA language models) and their capabilities and limitations.
• Understanding of ethical considerations in AI development, including bias, fairness, and safety.
• Experience in developing and deploying AI-powered applications in a production environment is a plus.
