Process Technician
At Applied Materials, we design, build and service advanced equipment used to produce display and semiconductor chips.
Job OverviewProcess Technicians are responsible for preparing wafers for experimentation, operating reactors for thin‑film processes, and using scanning electron microscopes (SEM) for analysis and imaging. They record process conditions, perform routine maintenance, and evaluate wafers and thin films to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
Responsibilities- Prepare wafers for experimentation, including cleaning and preparation of reactors.
- Evaluate performance of process systems.
- Prepare cross‑section samples for SEM analysis.
- Operate reactors to perform thin‑film processes under supervision.
- Operate SEM for cross‑section and top‑view imaging, critical dimension (CD), or energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis.
- Identify patterns of interest in imaging and understand image‑quality requirements.
- Record process conditions and experimental observations.
- Perform SEM software alignment functions.
- Evaluate wafers and thin films.
- Perform routine maintenance, including flash and plasma clean.
- Develop skillful use of laboratory process equipment and instrumentation.
- Interface with requesters to understand detailed requirements and communicate results.
- Order equipment and supplies; coordinate with vendors and purchasing.
- Technical diploma, military technical training, or trade certification with 1–2 years of related experience.
Extensive walking, standing, and working in tight spaces. Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, working at height, lifting up to 35 lb, distinguishing between colors, working with electricity, tolerance to noise, and use of hand and power tools. Ability to work in a clean‑room environment with appropriate personal protective equipment (coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields).
Benefits& Compensation
- Salary: $24.50 – $34.10 per hour.
- Location:
Santa Clara, CA. - Full‑time, Regular, no travel.
- Relocation eligible.
