Materials Testing and Characterization Engineer
Job Summary:
Assist in operation of lab equipment, mechanical testing, and failure analysis of materials. The work will be centered around preparing samples, testing samples, and analyzing samples to evaluate brittle material performance. This position is to support a team of materials engineers in improving the reliability and performance of our products throughout the company. Training and detailed instruction will be provided for all specific tasks or measurements required.
- Operation of lab equipment
- Mechanical testing using an Instron or similar test apparatus
- Sample preparation of materials for mechanical or chemical testing
- Imaging and measuring of test samples
- Failure analysis of brittle materials
- Data recording and reporting to engineering team
- Hands on lab experience
- Experience with laboratory characterization, including optical microscopy (Keyence, Stereoscope)
- Familiarity with basic materials science concepts
- Comfortable with managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent tasks
- Ability to record and report data cleanly to many engineers
- Excellent record keeping and attention to detail
- Lab management and workflow development
- Preferred experience with Instron for materials testing
- Experience with any materials characterization techniques (e.g. SEM, optical profilometry, color measurements, FTIR, DSC, Raman)
- Experience with CAD or design software
- Experience with project tracking or task management tools (e.g. Jira)
