Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Data Center Focus)

OverviewThe mechanical design engineer for High Speed I/O products will be responsible for concept generation, design, verification, and qualification of hardware needed to implement High Speed IO products into customer systems. The role ensures manufacturability and meets defined customer requirements while engaging closely with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities- Conceptualize, design, and develop hardware needed to integrate IO connectors into customer systems, from initial proposal to successful tooling and product qualifications.
- Perform Design FMEA, Tolerance Analysis, Design for Manufacturability, FEA, and Risk Analysis.
- Work with Marketing and the customer to define customer needs and functional performance requirements, assessing technical risk.
- Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing disciplines, including stamping, plating, molding, and assembly to optimize design for production processes.
- Lead product design reviews and verify accuracy of product drawings, ensuring proper usage of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Work with Materials Engineering to define metal and polymer material choices based on performance, pricing, and global sourcing requirements.
- Engage customers during hardware development, present product concepts early in the development cycle, interpret feedback, and incorporate revised requirements into the design.
- Provide input in defining product, application, and packaging specifications, as well as verification and product qualification test plans.
- Manage resolution of first article inspections.
- Collaborate with NPI and manufacturing engineering to ensure products transition to manufacturing.
- Interact with global associates during product development and provide mentorship as appropriate.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven knowledge and experience in mechanical analysis, including static & dynamic loading, torsion, compression, and tension.
- Proven knowledge and experience with risk assessment and mitigation in designs.
- Proficiency in the use of CAD software for design and concepting (Solid Works preferred; Space claim also acceptable).
- Proficiency in static and dynamic load analysis using FEA tools (ANSYS preferred).
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles, material selection, and statistical engineering methods.
- Understanding and experience with mechanical & environmental testing.
- Ability to work effectively within a project team and direct the activity of others as needed.
- Bonus:
Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure, including rack and chassis design, blade and rack server configurations, switches, routers, and network topologies, power distribution units (PDUs) and UPS systems, and server and switch assembly, integration, and validation.
Base salary range: $100,750 – $168,870 USD annually, with compensation determined by factors such as location, experience, qualifications, skills, and education.
