Robotics & Digital Solutions, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Systems Integration Engineer – Compute Hardware located in Santa Clara, California. In this role you will integrate hardware, software, and firmware to deliver the compute, power, networking, and vision system for the OTTAVA™ surgical robotics platform.
Core Responsibilities- Bring up, debug, and integrate electrical, software, firmware, and mechanical components to build complex systems.
- Conduct root cause investigations into system failures and provide critical input to design teams.
- Engineer innovative features to prevent recurring issues.
- Characterize and calibrate system performance.
- Define and develop production tests in collaboration with the manufacturing team.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including hardware, software, robotics control, surgical instruments, clinical, architecture, manufacturing, operations, and service.
- BS in Computer, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of relevant experience, or MS/PhD in the same fields with 1+ year of experience.
- Fundamental understanding of computer hardware, software, embedded systems, operating systems, networking, board‑level electronics circuits, and power electronics.
- Hands‑on experience integrating, bringing up, and debugging complex systems that include electronics, embedded systems, computers, servers, instrumentation, networking equipment, and/or sensors.
- Strong proficiency in Python for programming, scripting, and modifying existing code.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, organization, and collaboration through project experience.
- Demonstrated ability to decompose complex, ambiguous engineering issues into solvable problems (preferred).
- Demonstrated ownership of problems with a can‑do attitude, taking initiative to identify solutions (preferred).
- Experience designing and bringing up new PCBs and integrating with sensors, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino), and mechanical components (preferred).
- Exposure to biomedical engineering or robotics (preferred).
- Willingness to work on‑site in Santa Clara, California is required.
- Anticipated base pay range: $106,000 – $170,775.
- Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year.
- Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year (48 hours for Colorado, 56 hours for Washington).
- Floating holidays: 13 days per calendar year.
- Work, personal and family time: up to 40 hours per calendar year.
- Parental leave: 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child.
- Bereavement leave: 240 hours for an immediate family member; 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year.
- Caregiver leave: 80 hours per 52‑week rolling period.
- Volunteer leave: 32 hours per calendar year.
- Military spouse time‑off: 80 hours per calendar year.
