Robotics Engineer (Hardware + ROS2 - Part-time)
Part-time Contract
· Hybrid/In-person
We are hiring the first engineers on a robot heading into real deployments. This starts as a part-time contract and is designed to become a core full-time role as we scale.
About usAerobotics7 builds autonomous robots and AI for some of the hardest problems in the physical world.
We started in humanitarian demining, building sensing systems to detect landmines and make land safe to use again. That work is now taking us somewhere bigger and more urgent: a problem most people never see, that affects millions of lives and the infrastructure everything depends on. We are building the robot that solves it, and we are looking for an engineer to help bring it to life.
We are small, technical, and moving fast. You would be one of the first engineers on the robot, working directly with the founders, with your work heading into real customer pilots within weeks.
What you will doBring up and integrate sensors, compute, and power on a mobile ground robot (LiDAR, Stereo Cam, IMU, embedded compute, custom power rails)
Build, tune and debug ROS2 nodes for data acquisition, sensor fusion, and localization
Own hardware integration end to end: wiring, harnessing, mounting, bench testing, field testing
Get the robot field-ready for real deployments, not just the lab
Strong hands‑on ROS2 experience (nodes, launch, tf, working with real sensor data)
LiDAR‑inertial odometry or SLAM (FAST‑LIO2, LIO‑SAM, and similar)
Sensor calibration and time synchronization
Comfort with embedded Linux and single‑board compute (Jetson or similar)
Real hardware skills: sensor integration, wiring, power, debugging with a multimeter and scope, not only simulation
Experience taking a robot from bench to field
Based in the Bay Area and able to work in person in/near Santa Clara
Radios and networking for field robots
You have shipped a robot that left the building and survived contact with the real world
Independent contractor (1099), part-time, immediate start
Flexible schedule, hybrid, with regular in-person time in Santa Clara for hardware and field work
Clear path to more scope and ownership as we grow
