Johnson & Johnson, Robotics and Digital Solutions (RAD) group is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer with a focus on High Speed Digital, Computing and A/V Electronics.

Within RAD R&D, we are a team of clinical, electrical, firmware, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, systems and software engineers passionate about improving patient care. We follow an iterative, collaborative approach to product development, working across clinical, instrument, accessories, and system teams.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will bring the expertise, technical depth, and passion needed to architect, design, integrate, and validate complex embedded digital systems. You will develop robust system architectures, create and maintain technical documentation, perform component‑, board‑, and subsystem‑level testing, and participate in cross‑functional design reviews and xFMEA activities.

• Architect, integrate, and test an embedded acoustic and video system using off‑the‑shelf and semi‑custom components.
• Architect, develop, design, and test printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) of varying complexity.
• Own full lifecycle designs of PCBAs including design, technical reviews, prototyping, detailed testing, design and release documentation.
• Work closely with multi‑functional teammates to develop robust and reliable architectures with electrical functionality driven by simulation, analysis, test.
• Deliver documentation such as technical reviews, test results, and theory of operations.
• Perform component, board, and subsystem level testing to ensure conformance to requirements, including EMI, ESD, and thermal analysis.
• Participate in design reviews and xFMEA analysis across the broader team.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, And

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Experience using Altium Designer or similar eCAD tools to develop and maintain PCB schematics.
• Experience contributing to the design, development, and validation of digital electrical systems across product development lifecycle stages.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams on board‑level and system‑level architecture and development efforts.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, And

Experience:

• Experience designing and developing electronic systems in the medical device industry or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with embedded communication protocols and industrial networking technologies such as PCIe, Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, I2C, SPI.
• Strong understanding of Linux and real‑time operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, QNX) and their application within embedded and distributed systems.
• Design for electromagnetic compatibility and immunity, electrically fast transients, electrostatic discharge, etc.
• Experience in system level computer design.
• Understanding of AV cards, processors and machine learning algorithms.
