Sr. Robotics and Controls Engineer

Overview

Senior Robotics & Controls Engineer with Johnson & Johnson Robotics (Santa Clara, CA). Join a team developing algorithms and production-level software for complex electromechanical surgical systems. Work across a connected digital ecosystem to advance medical professionals' skills and patient outcomes.

• Develop, implement, and test robotic and control algorithms for complex electromechanical systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, systems, and clinical engineers to implement and test algorithms.
• Develop C++ software in a real-time, safety-critical environment.
• Participate in algorithmic, control, mechanical design discussions and code reviews.
• Conduct detailed investigations of data collected from the system.
• Support regulatory filings (e.g., FDA 510(k)) in accordance with Quality guidelines.

• MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent;
  PhD a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in robotics or complex electromechanical systems.
• Strong programming experience in C++, Python and/or MATLAB.
• Solid understanding of serial manipulator design, kinematics & dynamics, and controls.
• Foundations in classical control, safety-critical control, and controller tuning.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to travel up to 5% (domestic/international).
• Experience applying data-driven and scientific approaches to engineering problems; regulated industry experience preferred.
