The Regulatory Affairs Manager is responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and influencing regulatory and standards requirements that impact HVAC products and systems within the West Coast region, primarily California. This role will lead the company’s state legislative strategy and advocacy efforts ensuring engagement with legislative engagement and supporting regulatory matters. Acting as a key liaison between engineering, government relations, Communications and Manufacturing, legal, and external regulatory bodies, the Regulatory Affairs Manager provides strategic guidance to support policy initiatives, market access, and long-term objectives.
The position also represents the organization in industry associations and standards committees, proactively influencing regulatory developments and assessing business impact.
- Lead state legislative monitoring, analysis, and advocacy efforts, with an emphasis on California and other West Coast states.
- Draft and deliver concise legislative analyses, impact assessments, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
- Coordinate and execute legislative lobbying activities, including management of contract lobbyists, meetings with policymakers and follow up advocacy actions.
- Prepare executive briefings, presentations, and internal communications on priority legislative and policy initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Communications, Manufacturing, and Legal teams to ensure aligned advocacy positions.
- Provide regulatory insight and support related to rule making, energy efficiency programs, incentive initiatives, and state-level standards.
- Represent the company in trade associations, coalitions, stakeholder meetings, and public policy forums.
- Coordinate with trade organization and trade organization legislative lobbyists
- Maintain internal tracking systems for legislation, regulatory activity, and advocacy priorities.
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives aligned with North American government affairs strategy.
- Prepare and submit reports to senior management, as required.
- Applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
- Manages projects and processes while working independently and with limited supervision.
- Provides guidance and influence across multiple functions and leadership levels.
- Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal legislative processes, particularly California and West Coast.
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) industry knowledge
- Capable of comprehending written code requirements and governmental regulations
- Ability to use good judgment in investigating problems
- Skill in maintaining cooperative working relations with other personnel
- Aptitude for recognizing and dealing with priorities
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels using strong verbal and written communications skills
- Must have strong analytical and technical writing skills
- 5+ years with Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years with Master’s degree
- Bachelor’s Degree minimum in business, engineering or other technical science
