Job Description & How to Apply Below
Role Summary
A technician who keeps a complex optical research lab running must combine precision with adaptability. This role is built for someone who can move confidently between benchtop fiber‑optic work, rack‑level assembly, hardware debugging, and day‑to‑day lab operations. The function is simple in principle: maintain a high‑performance environment where engineers can test, iterate, and ship next‑generation fiber‑optic communication hardware without friction.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot benchtop setups used for fiber‑optic communication testing.
- Inspect, clean, route, and connect fiber‑optic cables with consistent, repeatable accuracy.
- Assemble and reconfigure rack‑scale test environments in coordination with engineering teams.
- Assist engineers during hardware bring‑up and debugging.
- Manage lab logistics, including shipping, receiving, equipment tracking, and silicon handling.
- Monitor consumables, maintain inventory accuracy, and coordinate purchasing to avoid supply gaps.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, technical diploma, or equivalent hands‑on experience in a relevant field.
- Two or more years working in optics, electronics, photonics, datacom, or telecom labs.
- Practical experience with fiber‑optic cables, connectors, and related components.
- Strong manual dexterity with small parts and the ability to lift up to fifty pounds.
- Clear communication, disciplined organization, and comfort working in a highly collaborative environment.
- Readiness to take on varied tasks in a fast‑moving research setting.
- Familiarity with optical instruments such as lasers, power meters, and related measurement tools.
- Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, source‑measure units, and multimeters.
- Ability to set up and maintain Linux and Windows systems used in lab test environments.
- Hands‑on skills in fiber splicing, soldering, or working with high‑speed RF connectors.
- Experience managing lab inventory, procurement workflows, or equipment lifecycle processes.
