Data Center Operations Cluster Manager

Amazon seeks exceptional leaders for a strategic senior management position overseeing our data center operations. This executive role offers significant visibility within the organization and aligns with our mission of becoming the world's most customer‑centric company. This leader will direct managers responsible for mission‑critical data center infrastructure, manage network systems, server operations, and infrastructure maintenance, and ensure optimal availability and performance across multiple regional facilities.

• Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (3–9 areas and front‑line managers) and 100–150 hourly associates within Regional Data Centers.
• Attain organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
• Engage in strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.
• Obsess over team learning and development, both technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, adaptability) including mentoring and training.
• Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
• Hire, manage, and develop the operations management team including data center managers and operations technicians.
• Plan and execute the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center buildouts, new colocation buildouts, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate daily operations.
• Facilitate successful in sourcing and/or outsourcing specific tasks balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
• Continuously improve operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
• Support data centers in various operational stages; the position may be assigned to a facility still under development, which could require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational.

• Will travel to or commute between data center locations as needed (over 50 miles or less than 50 miles).
• Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
• Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.
• Logical access to the AWS Gov Cloud region is restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens (Gov Cloud may not be accessed from outside the United States).

• Experience in technical work related to computer systems and technology components.
• 7+ years management experience in an operations, critical infrastructure, manufacturing, production, or distribution environment.
• 3+ years’ experience implementing LEAN/6 Sigma methodology (continuous improvement, DMAIC/DVADV, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, etc.).
• 3+ years of experience in working with network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, and experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies within a data center–based environment.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
• Experience with Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Lean‑Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
• Safety, security, and availability of incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
• 7+ years’ experience managing geographically dispersed teams.
• 7+ years of hands‑on experience with mission‑critical infrastructure.
