Research Scientist
Senior Research Associate
Conduct research and support the research activities of the research group led by Professor On Shun Pak at Santa Clara University.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Conduct research projects and support research development
- Provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate student researchers
General guidelines include:
- Recommending initiatives and implementing changes to improve research quality
- Identifying and determining cause of problems; developing and presenting recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices
- Maximizing productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives
- Researching and developing resources that create timely and efficient workflow
- Preparing progress reports; informing supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals
- Ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions
- Preparing and submitting reports as requested and required
- Developing and implementing guidelines to support the functions of the unit
Qualifications include:
- Knowledge in fluid mechanics, microhydrodynamics, and soft matter physics
- Theoretical and/or computational skills in fluid mechanics, microhydrodynamics and soft matter physics
- Ability to perform research in fluid mechanics and soft matter physics
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or closely related fields
- 2 years of theoretical/computational research experience required
Physical demands include:
- Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal
- May be required to travel to other buildings on the campus
- May be required to attend conference and training sessions within Bay Area or in- or out-of-state locations
- May be required to occasionally travel to outside customers, vendors or suppliers
Work environment includes:
- Typical office and laboratory environment
- Mostly indoor office and laboratory environment
- Offices and laboratory with equipment noise
- Offices and laboratory with frequent interruptions
Telecommute is available for employees within California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Illinois.
