Linux Kernel Senior/Lead Software Engineer

Who You’ll Work WithOur Linux Kernel team develops and maintains the kernel for EOS, tracks upstream developments, integrates new kernel versions, designs new features, and collaborates with the upstream community.
What You’ll Do- Track ongoing Linux Kernel developments and identify features relevant to Arista products.
- Design, develop and maintain EOS kernel features and tests using C, C++ and Python.
- Build automated tests and infrastructure to validate kernel features.
- Work with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify new kernel‑dependent CPUs and NICs.
- Contribute kernel features back to the mainline and integrate new kernel releases into EOS.
- Provide technical leadership for kernel projects and tools.
- Collaborate with customer support and system test teams to diagnose and resolve network issues.
- Mentor new and junior engineers.
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering + 8 years experience, or MS + 6 years, or Ph.D. + 3 years, or equivalent experience.
- Expert knowledge and extensive programming experience in C; knowledge of C++ and Python desirable.
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting, bug fixing and feature development in the Linux kernel.
- Familiarity with kernel architecture and upstream patching process.
- Understanding of IP networking architecture and design.
- Strong problem‑solving and software design skills.
- Ability to work independently and in small teams.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
Base pay range: $140,000 – $210,000, varying by location and experience. Roles may also receive discretionary bonuses, equity, and other incentives.
