Within the EC2 Nitro organization, the team is tasked with developing the next generation of EC2 supercomputers, optimized for high-performance training and inference workloads.
Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced System Development Engineer to drive development for new EC2 machine‑learning platforms. In this role, you will work with a broad group of technical teams that develop hardware, firmware, systems, and application software. Your responsibilities include maintaining the operational health of the service, build & release systems, and ensuring maximum uptime for developers and customers. You will ship code often and see the impact across a wide range of customers.
Key Responsibilities- Develop tools to streamline operations, reduce operational load, and improve overall operational posture.
- Automate and improve test infrastructure to make CI/CD more robust and flexible.
- Investigate and recommend best practices for maintaining and improving code quality, fleet health, security, and reliability.
- Mentor junior engineers, improve their skills, and write clear documentation.

Basic Qualifications- 2+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- 7+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands‑on systems engineering.
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, Power Shell, Ruby.
- Experience with Power Shell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large‑scale infrastructure.
