Position OverviewOur team is currently looking for a 3D Combustion CFD Simulation Engineer for our client in motorsports.
- High performance engineering business seeks a proven CFD Combustion Engineer who has experience of mathematical modelling of internal combustion engines with emphasis on detailed ignition, reaction kinetics, and knock modeling. As part of our Simulation Group, the role will be to prepare, run and analyze the results of combustion CFD simulations. On a day-to-day basis the role will operate with a significant level of autonomy.
Responsibilities will include:
Simulations - Setup and running of CFD simulations on our in-house Linux cluster systems - Reporting - Interpretation & analysis of results and summarizing for the technical and non-technical audiences.
- Automation - Development of scripts and macros to manage and improve the automated CFD tasks.
- Development – Generation of novel methods and techniques to tackle new problems in fluid dynamic analyses.
- Liaison with the wider Engineering team and other internal organizations.
- Defining tests and instrumentation used to measure data for validation of simulations.
- Preparation of detailed technical presentations for project engineering review.
- Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field. - Proficient with CONVERGE CFD with several years’ experience with that code or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience and excellence in engine combustion (including chemical kinetics) modeling and analysis.
- Direct injector spray development experience with emphasis on pre-mix combustion applications
- Knowledge in advanced combustion concepts, problems and enabling technologies.
- Experience in Linux HPC environment.
- High standard of care and attention to the quality of your work - including good practice record keeping, documentation, standards / conventions.
- Mature, responsible, autonomous, team player - capable of leading development projects.
- Experience in managing projects to a high standard and keeping deadlines.
- Desirable
Skills:
Working knowledge of Star-CCM+ and CATIA V5 an asset. - Programming skills in MATLAB, Java and Python.
- Design of Experiments (DoE) experience with implementation (HEEDS, ISight)
- Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) and FEA simulation process knowledge
Flexible working hours and the ability to work well under pressure are both central to this role, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Work Conditions- On-site in Santa Clarita, Ca
- One year contract w/possible extension
