Under the direction of the Director of Technology Services, supervises the technology staff responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, configuring and maintaining hardware and software in a personal computer (PC) and local area network (LAN)/wide area network (WAN) environment. Provides planning, leadership, guidance and advanced technical expertise for computer and network services for LAN/WAN and the internet.
SummaryThe Supervisor of Technology Services serves as a high-level technical expert for computer/network systems and associated processes or programs. This position requires leadership skills and the ability to connect multiple systems involving a wide geographical area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assists the Director of Technology in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating Information Technology Specialists.
- Develops, reviews and implements technology services needs for all district school sites.
- Writes computing facilities rules, policies and protocols standards and procedures for Information Technology Specialists.
- Identifies equipment and materials needed; orders and stores replacement equipment and parts. Arranges for installation of new hardware or software. Gathers and/or compiles data for required inventory reports.
- Troubleshoots problems and assigns staff to handle repairs; schedules routine and emergency maintenance; conducts internal audits.
- Organizes, prepares and conducts training and orientation for Information Technology Specialists.
- Serves as technology liaison for school site administrators, faculty, staff and students.
- Compiles data for State and District reports as needed.
- Performs on-site installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and broad-level repair of computers and related peripherals.
- Installs and maintains switches, routers, and gateways as required for connection between the District networks, and between District Office and all schools.
- Installs and maintains complex applications on District servers.
- Performs hardware and software upgrades.
- Conducts advanced network and network server troubleshooting.
- Provides support for a variety of business administration and instructional computer programs. Responds to District emergency calls.
- Prepares cost/benefit analysis of alternative hardware and software solutions.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
- In-depth technical knowledge of PC operations, including the relationship and usage of various input and output components, business and education support software, and terminology.
- Principles of PC hardware, software and peripherals;
Novell local and wide area networks. - Operating systems used in conjunction with networks.
- Basic principles of data communications equipment.
- Database administration.
- Network administration duties of Novell Netware files server and Microsoft Windows application server.
- Protocols and procedures for setting up new equipment, troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance.
- District network protocols.
- PC-based local area networks, network operations, connectivity between servers, and integration of data and telecommunications.
- Groupwise, domain name system, WEB, Novell directory services and antivirus software programs.
- Effective supervisory techniques including work assignment and delegation, performance evaluation, training and motivation.
- Personal computer based software programs that support this level of work including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, and special applications used by the department.
- Writing skills to document technical procedures.
- Sufficient human relations skills to convey technical information to others in a user-friendly manner using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Lead, train and supervise others.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot networked computer workstations, systems, and programs used by the District in both instruction and administrative areas.
