Under general supervision, nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established philosophy. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patient and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Mother-Baby Nurses educate and assist new mothers with physical and emotional needs during the post partum period, while in the hospital setting.
They perform the dual role of caring for the infants and educating mothers about care.
Licensure and Certification:
* Current California RN license
* Current BLS provider card
* Current NRP provider card
* STABLE class preferred
* National certification in Mother Baby care preferred
Education:
* Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) required
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred
* 16 CEU's related to Baby Friendly with proof of classes taken
Experience:
* Two (2) years recent mother baby experience.
* National certification in specialty preferred.
Knowledge and
Skills:
* Knowledge of Baby Friendly initiatives with supporting education documentation.
* Basic computer skills with knowledge of software needed for patient care (Meditech)
Physical Demands - Patient Care:
* Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting.
* Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices.
* Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead.
* Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing.
* Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds between bed, chair, and gurney.
* Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
* Occasional/intermittent pushing of gurneys, wheelchairs, bed and other medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces.
* Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
