Duties
:
Under the direction of the appropriate administrator, the School Nurse provides specialized health services to support the health, safety, and educational needs of students. Primary responsibilities include:
- Conduct mandated student vision and hearing screenings and follow up on identified concerns
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized student health care plans
- Attend Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, as appropriate, to provide health-related information and recommendations
- Maintain accurate health records and provide required documentation to support the district's Medi-Cal billing program
- Obtain, review, and clarify physician orders and other health-related documentation as needed
- Train and provide ongoing support to Health Care Aides in first aid, and specialized health care procedures
- Perform and/or supervise specialized health care procedures in accordance with physician orders and applicable regulations
- Collaborate with students, families, teachers, administrators, health care providers, and other school personnel to address student health needs
- Provide health education, consultation, and guidance to students and staff as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies governing student health services
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current and valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- California School Nurse Credential or eligibiilty and willingness to obtain the credential within five (5) years of employment
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Experience working with children and/or students in a school, pediatric, or community health setting is desirable
- Ability to work with students with varied disabilities
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
