Details of the position:

The goal of the program is mainstreaming and facilitating classroom participation for learners on the autism spectrum for learners' kindergarten through eighth grade. Instruction is structured and data collection occurs on all behavior IEP goals.

Behavior Interventionists work in the schools and BIs are typically where an applicant begins to gain experience working in the schools. The BI position is a good fit for someone with desire to work in the school but currently lacking the experience of doing so.

The desired applicant must be available from 8 - 3 p.m. 2-5 days a week as BI's work with students throughout the day and this position is within a school setting. Tuesday and Thursday availability is very desirable. All BI's are provided with training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in order to understand how to support a learner in a classroom setting.

Prior to beginning instruction with our learners, all interventionists are provided with extensive training on the methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in order to teach behavior interventionists how to increase the acquisition of skills in all developmental domains while decreasing problem behaviors that interfere with learning.

BI School Position Distinction (to aid in understanding this position from our other Behavior Technician positions)
  • Supports student(s) by implementing outlined behavior intervention plans, reinforcement ("reward") systems, and/or use of strategies designed to promote student participation in academic instruction
  • Student behavior intervention plans address less severe behaviors such as tantrumming, noncompliance, and/or verbal aggression.
  • Students supported at the BI level are often, but not always, placed in general education classrooms.
  • Students do not require emergency-based intervention.
  • No training in emergency-based intervention training is needed
