The environmental studies major prepares students for meaningful lifetime engagement with the environmental challenges that are facing society. UCSC environmental studies graduates hold leadership positions as legislative and policy analysts, environmental lawyers, environmental managers, city and state planners, educators, restoration ecologists, organic farmers and agroecological specialists, conservation biologists, environmental engineers, museum curators, business consultants, and political advocates. In addition, many graduates go on to obtain professional, master's, or doctoral degrees at the nation's finest institutions.

The Department of Environmental Studies offers four undergraduate majors and several concentration options within the Environmental Studies B.A. program. In addition to the single environmental studies major, students may choose to pursue one of two combined majors with biology or economics; or a degree in Agroecology. The combined major curricula offer the unique integration of the underlying concepts of environmental studies with a focus on the application of these concepts in a closely related field (or vice versa).

There are over 650 proposed and declared majors. We also have a robust internship program, and many field study opportunities. Sub-units within the department are the Center for Integrated Spatial Research (CISR) and the Kenneth S. Norris Center for Natural History (NCNH). We are also closely affiliated with the Center for Agroecology (CfA) and we often work with staff in the UC Natural Reserve System whose offices are in spaces assigned to our department.

Using skills as a seasoned, experienced academic advisor, the Environmental Studies Undergraduate Program Coordinator leads all undergraduate advising in the Environmental Studies Department (ENVS), and assists with our expansive internship program. Under the general supervision of the ENVS Department Manager, the incumbent has full programmatic responsibility for the independent administration of ENVS undergraduate advising, including advising faculty and management on the full range of academic issues.

The incumbent will serve as the lead administrative member on several of our internal committees, including our curriculum planning committee and our awards and scholarships committee. The incumbent works with the Office of Campus Advising Coordination to incorporate changes to department advising policies, practices, and procedures.

Budgeted Salary: $72,607.50 - $83,685.00 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.
